Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Kids' Picks: Rudolph, the
Red-Nosed Reindeer (2005)

Composer: Johnny Marks
Lyrics: Robert May, 1922

The famous Christmas song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer started life as a poem created by an American advertising executive called Robert May. He was requested to produce a poem that could be given away to children by the Santa Claus employed by department stores at Christmas.

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen.
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer)
Had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw it (saw it),
You would even say, it glows.
All of the other reindeer (reindeer)
Used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph (Rudolph)
Join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him (loved him),
As they shouted out with glee:
"Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer),
You'll go down in history."

Rudolph, guide my sleigh! (2x)

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer)
Had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him (saw him),
You would even say, it glows (like a lightbulb, Rudolph).
And all of the other reindeer (reindeer)
Used to laugh and call him names (like Pinocchio).
They never let poor Rudolph (Rudolph)
Join in any reindeer games (like Monopoly).

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say: "Ho-ho-ho!
Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then how the reindeer loved him (loved him),
As shouted out with glee: "Yippie!
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer),
You'll go down in history (like George Washington)."

Rudolph, guide my sleigh! (4x)

"Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer),
You'll go down in history!"

Rudolph, guide my sleigh! (4x)
